The President’s Message

Dear ISE Members

We are now well into the New Year, and looking back on 2012, it was an extraordinary one for the ISE with two conferences being held, one in February in Kolkatta, India, organised by Prof Mukherjee, and again in September in Graz, Austria, organized by Prof Bauer. Both conferences were well attended, scientifically interesting and inspiring, and I personally felt that there was a great spirit at both.

The ISE Secretariat has decided that reports on the ISE-conferences will get their own space on the ISE-homepage, rather than being part of the newsletter.  This new feature will be completed soon, and will include conference reports back to 2001.

Given that we ran two successful conferences within one year, we believe it might now be possible to have annual ISE-conferences, rather than the biannual schedule, which has existed since the start of the ISE. If there is someone interested in organizing a conference in 2015, please let the ISE Secretariat know. It is also time to start thinking about where the conference should be in 2016.

I hope you will find this new format for the ISE-newsletter an improvement.  Our aim is to communicate much more frequently in this way, keeping information short, so it will be easy for members to follow what is happening in the ISE.

New Student Representative on the ISE Board

An election has been run via the internet for the vacant Student Representative seat on the ISE Board.  All ISE Student members were eligible to be nominated or alternatively they could nominate themselves. The candidates’ promotional material was distributed electronically, and all Student Members were invited to vote.

James Oluwagbamigbe Fajemiroye was elected. James did his undergraduate studies in Nigeria, where among other things he performed an ethnobotanical survey of Ilorin Emirate (traditional state in Nigeria) economic plants. James is currently a PhD student at Federal University of Goiàs, Brazil, where he is studying psychoactive plants.

The ISE welcomes James to the Board and looks forward to working with him.
